Sandbagging if you are unfamiliar with the term, refers to the act of purposefully losing to lower one’s rating. This facilitates playing against lower-ranking opponents in bigger money tournaments increasing one’s chances of finishing on the podium. The term appears in many sports, but here I refer to the sixty-four squares. Specifically, my own tournament chess playing experience with the “tactic”.
