Life and the Farming Concept

I think I’ve come to an understanding about life. All of our lives are based on the farming concept. There is time to plant and a time to harvest. And whatever we plant is what we’re going to harvest.

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. — Galatians 6:7

There are always opportunities to do what’s right and to do what’s wrong. These opportunities are presented to us everyday. We have a choice to make. We can either do or say things that will help or hurt situations we’re faced with.

We can look at Galatians 6:7 and adopt it as a pattern of how we’re supposed to react to situations. Following this pattern strengthens our relationship with Jesus and our resolve to be welcomed into Kingdom of God as an eternal resident.

If we do wrong, like rebelling against authority, gossiping, lying, stealing, cheating and so forth, we can expect to receive the same from other people. Some people call it karma.

Thinking of the farming concept, let’s use a kernel of corn. One kernel is planted, it grows to a stalk with several ears of corn and on each ear are hundreds of kernels.

So whatever we plant, we will harvest hundreds more of the seed we used. If you plant wrong, don’t expect right. Plant good, expect to harvest good hundreds of times over.

This world is full of emotional and physical pain. There’s so much despair and loss of hope in the affluent and not-so-affluent. So let’s get busy planting good seed into the lives of the people we meet. A smile, hug and words of encouragement will grow into many more for other people, and us.
