#IndiaWantsCrypto has now become #IndiaGetsCrypto. The RBI Vs Crypto case had dragged on for more than 2 years and had set the crypto industry in India back by as many years. The losses that these two years saw was unprecedented, however, there are few that continued to pursue this field, innovated, persevered and came out with flying colors.

However, Crypto in India was not the same as it was a couple of years back. The interest among many waned, and what we called — tourists — had ultimately left. Having said that, the zeal among those who remain is still great, but the questions remain:

  • What does the newfound status of banking with crypto mean to us?
  • What still remains to be achieved?
  • Is the community ready for an evolution in this space?
  • Has the #lockdown created a new challenge?
  • How can we prepare for a threat we have yet not perceived?
  • Are we ready for the anti-crypto authorities if they strike back again?

Roundtable #6 brings together the giants of crypto in India to a freewheeling conversation to discuss how we can make Crypto Great in India again!

The Challenges which remain

  • Legal status has still not changed

  • Education penetration of the masses still remains an issue
  • Regulatory systems are not happy with crypto being touted as a payment system
  • There is still a possibility of an anti-crypto lobby at work within the government
  • A single fraud case will spoil all the good work done till now

What are the Solutions at hand?

  • The narrative of Fiat is bad has to go — both systems will coexist.
  • Let crypto just be a speculative instrument and not a payment system.

  • A Crypto specific body is necessary apart from IAMAI
