Hey! Let’s set the stage. Why does your startup, Comb, exist?

Comb was born out of a frustration and the opportunity to make shopping more personalised. It is a well known e-commerce fact that we’re more likely to buy something if a friend recommends it, Comb aims to bring this into the fashion shopping experience.

Comb is a personalised fashion discovery platform working across mobile and desktop. Think Pinterest, but dedicated to all things fashion, from finding that pair of shoes you spotted on the tube, to looking like Gigi Hadid for half the price.

With over 2 million products ranging from high street to high end, there’s something for everyone on Comb. Get the look in seconds, either by using our app or the COMB it button on desktop, all with the click of a button.

Who’s behind Comb? What did you all do before getting this started?

Myself and Moeez first met at Loughborough University in 2008, where we both lived in the same hall. After graduating, I setup my own social media agency in the UK and Moeez moved to NYC to work at a startup.

In December 2014, I called Moeez with a very vague idea for a business; I had spotted a trend of people buying more and more through social media and via recommendations. However, e-commerce was unpersonalised and each user had the same experience despite having potentially completely different tastes and style, so the idea was that there could be somewhere online you could visit that would be tailored to you.

Somehow after three months (still unknown to this day), I convinced Moeez to quit his job in NYC and move back to Loughborough (yes, from NYC to…Loughborough) to pursue the idea of changing e-commerce.

Comb has just joined our partner community at Huckletree in Finsbury Square, how are you finding it?

Huckletree is a great example of a coworking space built for startups, done right. The building is well designed and location is great, there is a great blend of larger companies and one man startups.

The interior has been designed with every need for a startup in place, event space, phone booths, chill out areas, big and small meeting rooms, even the desks have every cable socket you would need, all thrown in with a great community that is brought together by an active team that organise events to help you improve on a day to day basis.

But this isn’t your first coworking community, right? How has coworking effected Comb’s story?

Yea, we actually just graduated from Bathtub 2 Boardroom before moving to Huckletree. The Bathtub allowed us to focus on product development within a supportive community of other early-stage businesses.

Coworking has great benefits, the main one for us is the network that comes with meeting so many different people and businesses in one place. We are regularly meeting other app companies, similar stage businesses and everyone is happy to share their learnings and networks to help you on your journey.

Of course there will be the occasional loud members but these are generally kept to a minimum by the community team who will accommodate them and help them find a suitable solution.

You just launched an awesome new feature called COMB It. How does it work and what more can we expect from team Comb in the coming months?

On June 14th, we launched a new web button called COMB it, which will change the way you shop online, forever (or at least help)! We have made it possible to get the look from any webpage on the internet with just the click of a button, effectively turning any site into a functioning store.

Imagine being able to shop any celebrity/street style star/style icon’s look from any website, at any time, in an instant and for a fraction of the price.

The tool can be installed in less than 1 minute across any browser by simply dragging it onto your bookmark bar, once you have found the look you would like to find, simply tap the COMB it button and using image recognition we find similar products from 1000s of retailers.

We’re looking forward over the next few months to keep developing the mobile app and also adding more features to the web button, but we can’t reveal too much just yet!

Is there anything you’re looking for that our community may be able to help with?

We’re always looking for a great way to network with technical talent, whether that be from other startups, big firms or new graduate talent.

I believe there is a need for a type of meetup that brings more technical skilled talent and founders together!
