Finding a North Star for Inclusive Research

Our mission, vision and plan for the future

--

You may be wondering what we’ve been up to since our initial publications on centering perspectives from people with disabilities and designing for identity. After a brief hiatus for self-care and intention-setting, we’re back in action, and ready to take the next steps for A Practical Guide to Inclusive Research.

To figure out how to scale this publication to other topics and contributors, we conducted a series of brainstorms to help us narrow in on a formal vision and mission.

We relied on Dropbox’s charter building exercise to narrow in and align on principles to drive the work we do with this online publication moving forward. We found this exercise easy to follow, especially in a remote, distributed setting.

Ultimately, this is where we landed:

Vision:

To create technology, products, and services that are equitable, ethical, and inclusive of all identities and lived experiences.

Mission :

Empower and equip people with best practices for conducting inclusive research and building experiences centered on perspectives of historically excluded communities.

In order to create technology, products, and services that are equitable, ethical, and inclusive of all identities and lived experiences, our publication is set on empowering and equipping people with best practices for conducting inclusive research and building experiences centered on perspectives of historically excluded communities.

These statements represent our commitment to empowering anyone to conduct inclusive research. For us, we believe in the importance of critically examining and challenging our typical research practices and product development so that we may create a future that is more equitable, ethical, and inclusive for all.

Moving forward, we are excited to work towards our mission and vision by crafting more content on a variety of topics related to inclusive research. As we create more guides, best practices documents and thought pieces, we aim to include new authors and creators, in turn enabling this publication to expand beyond our own areas of expertise.
