July is national Ice Cream Month!

In honor of this *deeply important* holiday, here’s a list compiling memorable scenes from movies which involve eating ice cream.

For scoring, instead of the usual stars, I will use this appropriate symbol:(🍦) to rate the use of ice cream in a scene.

If you can think of any more movies, please add them in the comments!

Forrest Gump (1994)

“The only good thing about being wounded in the buttocks… is the ice cream”

Although very short, the ice cream scene in Forrest Gump does a good job of characterization. In a humorous way, we immediately understand Lt. Dan’s outlook on life — as well as Forrest’s!

Miss Congeniality (2000)

This scene in Miss Congeniality puts a clever twist on the homonymic pun of a pint. Not the usual order from a bar!

The Notebook (2004)

They drop the ice cream and kiss instead! The Notebook misses what’s most important (hint: it’s ice cream).

Use of ice cream:🍦

Wonder Woman (2017)

Perhaps my favorite moment in all of these: Diana Prince gets to taste ice cream for the first time in this Wonder Woman scene! It’s taken straight from the comics, too, and quickly depicts Diana adapting to the new world.

City Slickers (1991)

“Barry can pick out the right flavor of ice cream to follow any meal” (an enviable skill)

The characters of ice cream magnates Ira and Barry are clearly a nod to Ben & Jerry’s — good people! City Slickers pokes fun at the “Western stand-off” in this funny display of prowess.

Roman Holiday (1953)

Set against the beautiful backdrop of Rome’s Piazza di Spagna’s steps, this Roman Holiday scene also uses ice cream to characterize Audrey Hepburn’s Princess Ann character as an ingenue. This timeless movie and iconic stars would receive a higher mark, but littering immediately docks off points!

Use of ice cream: 🍦🍦

Down By Law (1986)

In typical Jim Jarmusch fashion, this ice cream scene from Down By Law is more symbolic; a metaphorical call for childhood freedom. No physical ice cream is seen but we hear Tom Waits and Roberto Benigni sing this old favorite.

Use of ice cream: 🍦🍦🍦

Hot Fuzz (2007)

Ice cream actually helps Det. Angel solve the mystery in Hot Fuzz! Also this film is one part of the Cornetto trilogy (named after the famous Italian ice cream brand in an attempt to be sponsored by them) so, extra points for that.

Use of ice cream: 🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦

Eddie Murphy’s Delirious (1983)

If you watch anything from Delirious, watch this funny and innocent story! The rest of the comedy special is problematic, which takes off some points.

Use of ice cream: 🍦🍦🍦

Home Alone 2 (1992)

Kevin McCallister is living the life in this quick snippet from Home Alone 2. A sweet (pun intended) mixture of adult humor and kid fantasy.

That’s all for now, please add more in the comments if anything comes to mind. Hope the month of July is filled with many celebrations and tasty movie-ice cream pairings! Here’s a Michael Scott quote for some snacking motivation:
