b.miles, the sophomore EP by b.miles

Last week, B.Miles (featured on our very first Brillboard) dropped her eponymous EP— eponymous, if you will. The record features lead single Running, plus four other tracks that are basically brand-spanking-new.

Here’s a quick run-down for you:

Running

Favorite lyric: “Trigging all my thoughts // but you just can’t be caught”.
Favorite soundscape: those ascending electronic notes that bubble up between verses.
When it plays in a movie: Cute montage of protagonist trying to impress crush (soon to be significant other).

Rude

Favorite lyric: “Like a bowl in a china shop, I can’t behave”.
Favorite soundscape: the orchestral string instruments at the intro / outro.
When it plays in a movie: Emotional scene between protagonist and significant other, perhaps featuring sexual tension.

Typical Words

Favorite lyric: “I lost that invitation into your heart”.
Favorite soundscape: the pitter-patter of a rapidly changing piano keys.
When it plays in a movie: a climactic argument —we’re talking Blank Space style ratchet. Right before a split between protagonist and significant other.

Tell Me I’m Wrong

Favorite lyric: “I’m on my way to paradise // it’s that quaint little town in your mind”.
Favorite soundscape: The cacophony of beauty that kicks off at 2min, 45secs. All of it.
When it plays in a movie: Protagonist and significant other are in two different locations for this scene. One of them is on a train. Something dramatic happens at the end, probably.

Yinu

Favorite lyric: “Yes i need you” (aka Yinu).
Favorite soundscape: The juxtaposition of what I’m going to call ‘Hanz Zimmer’ and ‘angelic siren’.
When it plays in a movie: Literally any part of 50 Shades of Grey. I didn’t see that movie, but like… tell me I’m not wrong.

If NY-based B.Miles got her name out there with Salt, she’s getting her sound and artistry out there with this EP. It’s a cohesive collection of five tracks. Each has a varying levels of romantics and uncertainties; each very much worthy of your time.
