Let me introduce you to an incredibly talented artist from Nashville, TN: Trella. She just released a new EP in March of 2017. The 6 track EP includes 3 of her previously released singles including Retreat, Crash, and Stand Up.

Her second single Retreat, which was released in 2016, garnered more than 1 million listens on Spotify + solidified her position as an artist on the rise. My favorite though is the title track Vapor which is simply stunning. Have a listen below.

Trella’s vocals cut through the introduction like a knife, contrasting the repeating vocal sample “burning in your love” with her first lyric “I see your hand touching but I don’t feel you”. In the Genius commentary, Trella herself explains that “The overall theme of that song is just the stage of being numb.”

Our pain is much like vapor–here for a moment, and disappearing over time, into thin air.

The EP stretches across a number of themes steeping in emotion, or in this case lacking emotion. As Trella notes in the story section of her website, “Our pain is much like vapor–here for a moment, and disappearing over time, into thin air”. This quote emphasizes why the album was named Vapor as each track approaches pain from a different angle.

Trella is an extremely talented up and coming artist. I encourage you to listen to the whole EP in its entirety and appreciate it for the interconnected piece of art that it is.
