Our incredible fundraisers are an essential part of the work we do at Independent Age to support more than a million older people every year.

Without continued, regular and widespread support, it would be impossible for us to secure a better life for every older person, now and in the future. Our plans for growth rely on our amazing supporters, who share our vision, passion and commitment to improving life as we grow older.

Phoebe is one of our extraordinary supporters who took on an event for us this year. Phoebe ran the London Landmarks Half Marathon in March 2022, raising a fantastic £344 for Independent Age. Phoebe signed up for an event after cheering at the London Marathon with us, an experience that helped bring her closer to our cause and inspired her to become more involved.

Phoebe’s advice to less-experienced runners wanting to sign up for a half marathon is to start small and build up: “If you’re starting from scratch, I recommend doing the NHS’s Couch to 5k programme, and then spending about three months gradually upping your distance. As a rule of thumb, if you can run 10 miles, you can run 13.1!”
