E: Tell us briefly who you are and what you do
L: You now, who I am is strictly related to what I do… I cannot be without what I do- I´m Luis Camacho, Guitarist, Master in Music and creative artist.
E: You’re debut album’s just been released- tell us about how it came together, what were the influences, how the recording process was, who else played on the album, etc.
L: Yes, it was something that I had planned since the beginning of my year in Spain… I ended up playing with this curious group of people from different parts of the world with different musical backgrounds and influences from Latin to Funk to Contemporary and Classical. Everyone was a killer performer, and I just imagined sounds that would be interesting and convey emotions… under the Latin/Contemporary/Funk vibe everyone has space to express themselves. After a while one of my colleagues from Berklee advised me to name the album after one song , to strengthen the concept, I did, that’s how I came up with the name and the concept ¨The Ninja¨. The album was recorded at the Berklee Valencia Studio Complex. All songs were recorded live, plus some overdubs in the production suites. As time went by more ideas and arrangements kept on coming so I recorded, mixed and mastered them in Studio C in Dénia. Besides the former line up which is Fernando Garcia on Drums, Alex Dyring on Bass, Maria Grigorieva on Violin and myself, there are also collaborations by Victor Mendoza, Isaac Delgado Jr , Victor Jimenez, Sebastian Laverde and Victor Jimenez.
E: Are you going to be touring? If so, where are you playing?
L: I guess, I think I’ll play in a couple of festivals in France and Spain… I’ll let you know.
E: What’s your most rock n roll story?
L: Girls throwing bras, panties and tampons at me- that’s pretty rock n’ roll.
E: What’s been your favourite show that you’ve played so far, and why?
L: The Victor Wooten show in 2012 was awesome, he is a true Master, and I learned so much from him.
E: What are your 5 favourite albums, and how have they influenced your sound?
L: Yes, my 5 favourite albums… I’m going to say them with no particular order, they’ve inspired me in many things, whether technique, improvisation, arranging, composing, etc. Still, five is not enough, not even close.
Dream Theather, Images and Words
Sonny Rollins, Saxophone Colossus
E: It’s the start of a New Year, what can we expect from you in 2014?
L: A shit tonne of more music, 2 albums in sight plus playing and promoting.
