Last weekend, while my wife was shopping at a store, I took about 20 shots from my phone of two-wheeler riders riding without a helmet.

Motorcycle riders who ride without helmet are typically one of the largest organ donor group . Here’s a quote from NYTimes Blog -

“They are also the highest-quality source of organs, because donors are usually young, healthy people with no other traumatic injuries to the body, except to the head.” — Donorcycles — Link

Out of the twenty shots, nine had clearly visible registration number plates. I submitted them to Bangalore City Traffic Police’s (BTP) on their Public Eye site. This service started in October 2012, and has since racked up ~6000 complaints (~15 per day). Each complaint fetches roughly Rs. 100, thus a $25 revenue per day (Annual ~$9000). This is minuscule amount compared to total collections of Rs. 350mn (US $5.6mn) in year 2009 (Link). However, wider participation from Bangalore’s e-Savvy citizens, this number has the potential to become significant. BTP should endeavor to make it even easier to file these complaints.

Nine Complaints = Rs. 900

Only 5 minutes next to a road with average traffic gave me 9 violations bookings, which points to the potential for citizens to help BTP. I have submitted a total of 31 complaints (0.53%) in last 4 months. This alone contributed Rs. 3100 to BTP’s revenue. It’s my small contribution towards making Bangalore roads safer.

Let’s support BTP’s Public Eye.
