India’s first IIM graduate with Cerebral Palsy, Sumanth KV on how he has conquered the world every single day.
Every child comes into this world crying. But Sumanth came into this world with a wide smile. Sumanth suffered from Cerebral Palsy. A condition which hinders body movements and speech. Or as his friends’ joke, ‘Walking like an old man and talking like a kid’. With the help of Spastics Society of Karnataka, Sumanth pursued his education and was integrated into a normal school a few years later. He also went ahead to pursue his graduation in commerce from Jain college Bengaluru.
While in college, Sumanth read about Sriram who despite his visual impairment went ahead and pursued post-graduation from India’s prestigious management institution, IIM. This story about Sriram became Sumanth’s mission too. After passing out of Jain college in 2006, under the guidance and mentorship of Shanti Raghavan of EnAble India, Sumanth joined Thomson Reuters. He worked in night shifts, crunched numbers and had a fantastic time at work. Meanwhile he kept preparing for the common aptitude tests (CAT) which would give his hallway pass to the corridors of IIM. In 2010, Sumanth went on to crack CAT and then joined IIM Indore. In the process he became the first Indian with Cerebral Palsy to do so. The 2 years at IIM Indore were Sumanth’s best 2 years. Finding a job for an IIM graduate is typically a cake walk. But not for Sumanth. After 50 rejections, Sumanth finally landed his dream job at Flipkart as an Operations Analyst.
Today, Sumanth leads a wonderful life and feels satisfied with what he has achieved. Closing his short, funny and moving talk he quotes Abraham Lincoln’s famous line.

Not in any brilliant fashion.
We conquer the World,
Just by doing our daily Job.’

Sumanth was Born with cerebral palsy and he went on to pursue an MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Indore. Sumanth worked with Cadbury’s to set up the H.R policies for their new plant coming up in Sri city — Andhra Pradesh. Currently he is working with Flipkart in the last mile operations team
