This is PART — 3 of three-part series.

Part — 1

Part — 2

The Confessions of Parveen Babi, published in The Illustrated Weekly of India, dated January 29, 1984, was published while she was with U.G. in the U.S.

Those confessions were crucial to prevent legal action against any allegations of U.G. forcibly keeping Parveen in captivity.

When you read the confessions, it appears that the writer, Parveen Babi, is careful not to reveal too much.

The primary focus seems to be on giving U.G. a clean chit.

Was the piece moderated by U.G. before submission to the magazine for publication?

E.g., Parveen never mentions anything about finances.

U.G. and Valentine were living off Valentine’s pension — were they also bearing the expenses of Parveen Babi as she traveled and lived with them?

It would seem odd that Parveen would not offer monetary help to U.G. and live like a freeloader.

She had money, and U.G. was her mentor. She probably did help him financially.

And she never talks about them moving from Switzerland to the U.S.

Why?

There is word that she wrote her life story while in the U.S. with U.G. and Valentine, the manuscript of which remained with U.G. after she returned to India in 1985. He didn’t want it to be published?

The Confessions, even if moderated, still give us valuable clues to the possible foul play of which she may have been a victim.

Parveen Babi After 1985

Parveen Babi became a recluse after 1985. Bollywood had banished her.

There was no U.G. in her life anymore. We don’t know what happened to her those two years (1983–1985) and why she severed connections with U.G. forever.

Did she find out something?

Her Paranoia had grown worse. She reportedly gave an interview to a magazine in 1993, accusing Amitabh Bachchan of being the leader of an international crime syndicate.

Further allegations of Bill Clinton trying to kill her, the French Govt. attempting to kill her, etc., popped up later.

These were all in the print media. Parveen was never caught on camera making such allegations.

She only spoke about Sanjay Dutt’s involvement in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts during an interview in 2002.

She even filed an affidavit in court regarding this.

Stories continued to make the rounds in print media about how she suffered from Paranoid Schizophrenia, citing her ludicrous claims and distrust for everyone as an example.

Parveen Babi’s Last Interview

You can see a clip of Parveen’s last interview in this video

Parveen Babi appeared in an interview in 2002, three years before her death.

She decided to speak in front of the camera for the first time after many years on the popular show Movers and Shakers hosted by Shekhar Suman.

She appeared very articulate, not someone who was crazy. She spoke about many things and even made fun of Amitabh Bachchan.

When asked by Shekhar what she was doing with her life, Parveen replied she painted, did interior decorating, and wrote.

She said, “I write in the field of philosophy.”

She wrote in a notepad/diary. Her writings are not available anywhere.

The police confiscated her writings after they found her dead in her Juhu apartment in January 2005.

Mahesh Bhatt and Paranoid Schizophrenia

In 2020, Mahesh Bhatt was in the news after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. He had advised SSR’s girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, to break up with him because he could see him “going the Parveen Babi way.”

Leaked Whatsapp chats between Rhea and Mahesh confirmed this. Mahesh is commending Rhea for taking a step in the right direction.

A close aide of Mahesh Bhatt claimed SSR was hearing voices and thought people were trying to kill him.

Actress Kangna Ranaut went as far as to accuse Bhatt and Rhea of drugging SSR to break his mind and create a “conspiracy” around his “murder”.

Gochi?

Apparently, Mahesh Bhatt is the one who also diagnosed Parveen Babi with Paranoid Schizophrenia.

Mahesh Bhatt is not a psychiatrist; he is not an authority on mental diseases either. But Mahesh Bhatt told the media Parveen Babi suffered from Paranoid Schizophrenia, and that was all that the media needed.

Parveen Babi became a Paranoid Schizophrenic in the eyes of the world after that.

The diagnosis did not come from a psychiatrist after a psychiatric evaluation. At least no psychiatrist has ever claimed Parveen Babi suffered from Paranoid Schizophrenia.

And let’s not forget — Mahesh Bhatt is the one who introduced Parveen to U.G., claiming he was mind-blowing.

From a nobody director before his relationship with Parveen, Mahesh suddenly became the talk of the town after his 1982 hit, Arth, apparently based on his relationship with Parveen.

Conclusion

Parveen Babi in her last interview

What Parveen Babi sought was nothing out of the ordinary. Her dissatisfaction with life and her spiritual search is the story of millions of people.

Parveen already had what most people spend their whole life seeking: money, fame, and beauty. She was seeking spirituality.

She was only 26 years old in 1980 and just three relationships old.

Her broken relationships affected her just as much as they would affect anyone of us.

She moved on after her relationships with Danny, Kabir, and Mahesh ended. You never see her fret over Danny, Kabir, Mahesh, or anyone once they are out of her life.

Did she lose her mind because of her broken relationships? A lot of people want us to believe that.

Actresses today have more relationships in a month! And yet they go on with their lives and career.

Parveen was not a “nepo kid”; she was a complete outsider in Bollywood.

She worked in an industry well known for exploiting young women like her.

There is no doubt Parveen suffered from Paranoia. And it continued to get worse. One can say her Paranoia killed her because then she would not be living like a hermit — alone with no contact from anyone. She would be with family and friends who would have taken care of her.

The question we need to ask is: how much of her Paranoia was caused by the people around her? How much did external factors like Gochi contribute to her Paranoia? Did brain tampering make her Paranoid?

Read all three parts and decide for yourself.
