Indian publication on Medium

India on Run is created in order to provide a localized experience especially for the 7% monthly users of medium, i.e. Indian users. The idea behind this publication is to provide a core Indian perspective away from the stereotype. Henceforth writers are invited to share their experiences and their views in Indian context.

Medium is an open source platform where writers can contribute ideas over a wide range of topics. Yet some topics are so culturally limited to India, that they need a dedicated space to attract the right audience. This publication is aimed at providing you a platform for that only.

What each silo means and the importance of using the right keywords

India on Run is the only publication dedicated to Indian culture, relationships and Indians residing abroad. Here’s a brief about what every title/silo/keyword means and what can be covered under them:

  • Culture: Indian diverse culture demands special attention.
    Society | Hypocrisy | Education | Politics
For eg.: Rape culture of Haryana
  • Better India: Do your bit to make India better.
Suggestions for resolving a particular issue.
For eg.: Normalizing skin color prejudice
  • Indians Abroad: Personal accounts from Indians residing abroad.
Personal Experiences | Stereotypes | Suggestions
For eg.: My first year in Germany as an engineering student.
  • This happened to me: A section for all the victims.
    Personal experiences | Discrimination
For eg.: 7 years of being molested.
(Writers can submit anonymously if they want)

Things to know before submitting your article:

  1. Keywords: While tagging your article with keywords, add at least one of the keywords from above mentioned keywords (Culture, Better India, Indians Abroad, This happened to me). This will help your story to be highlighted in the respective section, apart from being highlighted on the front page of the publication.
  2. Grammar: I am just an MBA graduate with an average English. Yet I will be seeking help from some grammar Nazis to provide a quality experience to our readers. So make sure to check your article for the typos and grammatical errors.
  3. Draft Submission: Submit only unpublished articles, i.e. submit a finalized draft of your story. Needless to say, your article shouldn’t be published anywhere else.
  4. Formatting Guidelines: There are endless articles about formatting a Medium article, so refer to those and make sure your article is coherent and consistent. Here are some of the most basic ones:

Images: Mention image source or use built in feature of unsplash
Title: Make it short, crisp and appealing, but avoid click-bait titles.
Subtitle: Other than your image and title subtitle is visible to the readers before they click the image. Make use of this fact.
