The description of India’s Daughter in IMDb

India’s Daughter was a documentary produced by BBC, and it told the story about the famous Delhi gang-rape case in India which happened in 2012. It was an educational documentary which could warn people to pay more attention to the female right in India.

The Guardian commented on this film as “this film does what politicians should be doing” in 2015.

However, this documentary was banned in India in 2015, since the Indian government considered it as sensitive and be able to cause chaos in Indian society. The Delhi gang-rape case caused a hot discussion in India society, and in this case, an Indian young girl was raped and killed by a group of males on a bus. Female in India were so angry, and they even started a public protest to blame on the government since it failed to protect female in India.

Rape cases are common in India, and Indian female was so angry about this case was not only because of the brutality of the crime but also because the rapists didn’t feel guilty. BBC interviewed one of the rapists in the documentary, it seemed that he did not feel any guilt, and he even thought that was the girl’s false since she was supposed to be in her home instead of went out at night. This kind of attitude was quite common in India, according to my Indian friends, if the rapist comes from the upper class in Indian society, there is a huge possibility that he might not be punished for raping a female. From this, we can find that feminism in India still has a long way to go.
