In order to know more about Indian females from a conventional family, I interviewed one of them. Deepika is a friend of my Indian classmate, and she was born in India and never leave there. She comes from a family from the upper-class in India which is conventional, as she said.

Deepika told me she has been curious about the culture and food in the UK for a long time, and she even planned to study in the UK years ago. However, she was not able to achieve it eventually, since her parents still thought that she should stay in India, and start to think about her marriage.

Even though her family does not allow her to study outside India, she thinks Indian society treats females in India better than before.

“I always feel respected in India. Maybe it is because my family is rich, but generally speaking, I think I am safe and comfortable in this country.”

When I asked about the frequent rape cases in India, she seemed to feel normal.

“Just don’t go outside at night, and be more careful, you will be fine.”

It seemed like in Deepika’s opinion, it is female who needs to make more effort to improve the situation of the high incidence of rape in India.
