A Soldier’s Certainty
It was the dead of winter and our tents barely stood against the wind. Our General gave the word to march. It seemed to be morning since the darkness of the night seemed a bit lightened. We had to make ground since we were reinforcements for a battle several miles away. It was cold but the movement of our bodies was the only thing keeping us warm. As we approached the battle ground you could hear loud cannons and rifles. I was nervous, but not afraid since I have survived many battles and I have thought myself almost invisible. With every battle I have been engaged in I have not seen anything new, and we surly had a lot more men on our side to win this battle. As we drew nearer an odd feeling came to be. The sounds of gun fire almost ceased. How could this be? We had a strong hold and our unit was to be the final straw to aid in our victory. As we arrived the gun fire was in complete silence. All of our men were on the ground, dead. No enemy to fight against. We approached our fallen soldiers and we noticed no gun wounds were present. Then in the moment of realization that this could be a trap we heard and felt an electric sensation. In a matter of moments, my fellow men started to collapse on to the ground. I knew I only had about a blinks worth of time to live, in fact I was surprised I had even that much to realize I was a dead man. I then saw a man standing in front of me with glowing eyes and sparks of electricity emitting from his body. With a voice that only I thought a demon could make, he said “I finally found you”.
