#BusinessLeadership — Here’s 7 Steps to Business Heaven & Your Opportunity to Make Your Business Fly!

Here’s another piece on the theme of #BusinessLeadership — A companion piece to, ‘Here’s 10 Things Entrepreneurs Do & Do Well!’

And this is also based on the work I’ve been doing over the past 10 years through The Mudd Partnership, supporting Businesses to start-up and grow, achieve profitability and become Super Performers.

It’s also, based on my experience way before that working with multiple business sectors and across markets at the regional, national, UK-wide and European levels.

Today though I want to take a closer look at what I call, ‘The 7 Steps To Business Heaven’. They’re pretty straight-forward, very do-able, &, they could make all the difference wherever you currently are on your Business Journey.

So, keep reading and more importantly, let me know if this helps and how you get on — feedaback is Cool!

STEP 1: Have A Business Map

If you’re not looking for Bank Loans or Public Sector Grants perhaps a Business Plan is just not on your agenda at the moment and putting one together is not what you really went into business for in the first place! Fine and you’ll get no argument from me, but you do need to take some time to work out where you are now with your Business, where you want your Business to go, & by when, and also have a CLEAR idea of how it’s going to get there. Trust me on this!

STEP 2: Be a Constant & Strategic Innovator

Look for new ways and all the many ways you can create value for both existing and new clients. This might be through thinking the unthinkable and even creating alliances and partnerships with competitors. Ask yourself, “If not new, how can we be better?” And constantly review and evolve all your products and services.

STEP 3: Become A World Class Marketeer

Simply ask yourself, “Who are our customers and what do they want?”

STEP 4: Master Sales

Remember, “Marketing makes people want to do business with you, but Sales are what you get paid for!’ So, review and expand your sales and distribution channels.

STEP 5: Get On Top Of Your Financial & Legal Position

Be honest, where are your blind spots? What do you know you don’t know? What don’t you know you don’t know? The last question’s unanswerable of course, but in business you need information and you need answers. What’s happening with legislation, technological and product development in your sector (in the UK, & yes EC, and most definitely Globally)? You need to keep current and abreast of markets, whilst measuring what’s relevant to your Business’s current sustainability and profitability, &, future growth. Also be aware of where you are currently spending and nail those costs down and be aware of where you’ll need to be spending your money in next six-to-nine months and beyond!

STEP 6: Optimize

Followers of John Sneddon will know he is a great fan of sub-optimization in Business. I say, Optimize 1stReturn to basics and review all your core products and services. What can you do faster, cheaper and to a higher standard? Focus on making incremental changes in just a few areas and in a future piece I will be looking at the ‘Law of the Diffusion of Innovation’ and how the Tipping Point for your Business in terms of maximising returns and profitability might not be as far away as you think; & finally

STEP 7: Give Yourself Permission To Create A Raving Client Base

Simply look for as many ways as possible to add real value to the client experience and their journey with your Business!

Now go fly!
