Drop to earth

Down
from treetops
to forest floor below,
sheer drop
from crown
of highway arboreal, prehensile sole
to soil, stole mammal diminutive — 
prey
to fall,
perhaps,
to dread red
or fate of unfed; 
mayhap
stand tall
 — drawing breath 
deep, down
to earth: grounded.
