It is the right time to replace ‘Religion’ with ‘Dharma’.

‘Religion’ is a social institution, in which beliefs, practices and rituals are systematically arranged and formally established.

In every age, religion becomes a mere tool in the hands of a powerful few who abuse and manipulate millions of the followers in the name of faith. History of mankind is full of the tales of destruction wrought by the zealots in pursuit of faith. It is one of the most potent divisive force in the world along with ethnicity and race.

Most of the religions are based on a rigid doctrine and are judgmental! Maybe that’s why I meet more and more young people nowadays who reject the idea of organized religion!

And they are not wrong! Religion in all the world’s major societies has miserably failed to unite the humankind. Violent religious extremism, fundamentalism and intolerance is tearing the very fabric of our society.

Today, more than ever before, we need something non-divisive, non-exclusive, and much more accessible in place of religion.

Consider ‘Dharma’…

Dharma is an ancient word-it is a way of life! A Vedic doctrine free of all the dogmas of do’s and don’ts.

It is in fact a quest for understanding cosmic order of the universe and consciousness order at a personal level. It is simply a continuum of thoughts!

There are no divisions, no authority too great or sacred to be touched. Every interpretation is valid and welcome because Dharma’ is as limitless as truth itself.

‘Ekam sad viprãh bahudhã vadanti’ — 1.164.46 Rig Veda

— To what is One, the wise ones describe by many names!

This effectively puts an end to all inter religion conflicts and rivalry.

So, why can’t we be students of Dharma? All it takes is to practice the ethical principles of nonviolence, truthfulness, compassion and renunciation.

Imagine, a world free of religious conflicts and everyone living peacefully with no one trying to force their beliefs on others.

Let us experiment with Dharma for once and feel free to find our own happiness without any interference. We will surely bring harmony and peace to the world in the process.
