this line’s confronted me,
like a job title on a business card - 
“Medium.”

It conjures up clairvoyance,
crystal balls,
palmistry,
smoke and mirrors.
Table knocking — if there’s anybody out there, tap once for yes 
and twice for no…
Tarot cards,
levitation,
ouija boards and seances.
Communicating with ‘the other side’,
the spirit world.

And how similar, really, to talking to you -
my real-yet-unreal friends.
Ghost writers and ghost readers
who haunt my waking thoughts,
sometimes responding,
and sometimes not.

My virtual companions.
