Mind over body matter.

Every morning, before I head to my office, I weigh myself. That’s when I feel my “lightest”. I balance around a solid 132 lbs in the A.M. At the end of the day, just after I wash my make up off, I weigh myself again in hopes of seeing that number fall or at least stay the same. When I see “130″, I sleep well. But, that never happens. Thanks female bloating.

I weigh myself day in and day out, literally, fully knowing that I won’t like what I see. It’s like I enjoy the let down. I get high off of shaming my body. Maybe I think I’ll redirect that shame into action and stop eating so many carbs or train for a marathon. But that never happens. It’s just pure shame. And abuse.

Reflecting on my proudest moments, my weight has never been an influencer. Writing my best music, hearing myself on TV, going to Kenya, making new friends, cultivating culture, creating beautiful things with like minded people. Comparing these memories to the feeling of being thin and acne free feels a little like selling my soul to the minds behind Hardees’ ad campaigns.

IT’S EASY TO DEFINE OUR PURPOSE BY WHAT WE SEE IN THE MIRROR.

Why? It’s instant. Our eyes can process an image to the brain in 13 milliseconds. We’re calibrating our physical worth on a 13 millisecond judgement call.

What we can’t see so quickly is our work. There is no mirror for the brain. For our character. For our intentions. For the heart. We would rather take a compliment on our Instagram than a risk towards stretching our mind. Why? Because it’s instant. It’s safe.

TRUTH VS. TRUTH

Social media might speak tRUTH to you in a filtered sexy post about the adventurous weekend your online friend just had, but the TRUTH (with a capital T) is that your online friend is just as self conscience as the rest of us.

So let’s stop altering our reality (tRUTH) and see things as they really are (TRUTH). Some of us struggle with this idea more than others. I wish I could tell you why that is. Instead, let’s focus on the forces for good.

WORK IS BEAUTY.

When we find our purpose, our divine nature, our role in this life, when we look outside ourselves and look at the physical gifts that we can use to help others, that is beauty.

What i want you to walk away with knowing if nothing else is that The Instrument that is Your Mind and the Foundation of Your Character is what makes you beautiful. It’s what allows you to do beautiful things. And I would rather be known for doing beautiful thing, than for having a beautiful body. That’s where my self esteem lies.

So be healthy. Be sexy. Do good things with your body. Don’t compare yourself to others who don’t even know you. You don’t have to be titled 2015′s hottest man/woman by Cosmo to be kind, to create, to innovate, to change your world and the world of others.

Spend more time on your craft instead of in front of the mirror. Measure your weight by the good you’ve done.

Life is a never ending marathon. Mind over “body” matter.
