Profound Life — The roller coaster ride
An Intense Life
I remember there was a time in my life when I was sad because I lost two marks in an exam. On the other hand, there was a friend of mine named “SAIF” who was so happy that he was unable to control his laughing. When I enquired, I came to know that he failed the exam. Then why was he so happy? Turns out, he was happy because he had more marks that the friend who taught him for that exam(who according to Saif “failed hard”).
I don't think I will be able to enjoy that moment, with that level of happiness that Saif had, even if I got full marks. Because, I was consistently getting good marks, and, in my mind, I was expecting extra two marks for good handwriting too, even when I know that my handwriting was not that good.
Just observe a newborn baby. The baby will be laughing/smiling, observing/playing, or crying. These represent three states.
Going neither up nor down.
These are not applicable just to newborns. I believe, these are applicable to all people at any stage of their life.
Going up gives positive emotions and going down gives negative emotions. It doesn’t matter how high or how low you are in your life. The difference in distance between your previous state and the current state determines the intensity of your emotion.
Let us dive in.
When I was consistently getting good marks, I was not going up any further. I was already at a high level ( in terms of marks), neither going up nor down. When I lost two marks, I actually went down, causing me to become sad. Had I lost 5 to 10 marks, I might have even started crying. If somehow, I forgot to answer a question, then I will be mad at myself and my whole day would be of the tone depressed.
If you are a person who has stayed at the same level for a long duration, then I suggest that you tread lightly in either direction.
If you are not used to a fluctuating life, even a small fluctuation, in either direction, may cost you your life.
More on the above quotes, later.
Saif, on the other hand, got consistently low marks. He never cared that much for the marks. He had other things to do to enjoy his life, always. As a matter of fact, he still does not care for anything in particular. He always has some things to do to enjoy his life always. I am sure, he would have made it a celebration if managed to obtain even a just pass. It was because he was, simply, going up.
It does not matter where you are right now. Your emotions will be determined by which direction you are going. The intensity of your emotion will be determined by the distance that you had to travel and the time it took.
If you feel like you are already at a high level, just prepare yourself for any upcoming blows. If you live, if you continue to breathe, nature will bring you down, one way or another. If you feel like you are at a very low level, know that you are bound to go up, if you just continue to breathe, nature will take you up.
The secret to profound life.
Do all the crazy things you want to do with your life. Always, aaaalways, ensure that you make it to your next breath.
What is it that you want to do with your life? To stay still. Is it so?
Just think of your life as a roller coaster. Now, how is it that you want your roller coaster to go?
A couple of months ago, I was almost bedridden. Because I have ridden quite a few, different types of roller coasters ( not literal, metaphorical ), I knew that I was bound to go up. I always made sure to make it to the next breath. This time, the roller coaster was very different. It kept going down with twists and loops to reach new record depths. Now, I believe, my roller coaster is going up. All this energy is simply because of that. It has still not even reached the surface, but I feel, it is simply, going up.
I know it will take me down again, but I will enjoy, that too. Now you know why.
