The Choice of Your “First Boss”, sets your career goals
And don’t you think you can choose your work?

When you step out for a new career ahead, what do you think will keep you motivated for the rest two decades of your life?
If you work with someone whom you can foresee yourself as, in the near future, wouldn’t that give you immense motivation to inculcate the skills and qualities of that successful person beside you? Yeah, that is all what is missing!
How many employees have actually even met their boss? Would a million dollar company head with n number of clients, make time to work with you? Or do you wave to introduce yourself during team meets?
During the period of my intern at a one year old Business Incubator, I got the opportunity to do such kind of good work with the support of my boss. A small business, achievable goals, set targets, a limited set of employees yet extremely passionate about their work and an ambitious ethos all around me. A set of techies building their prototypes, a batch of highly energetic co-interns and a friend-cum-manager pursuing the dreams of the start up ecosystem is all I could see.
Amidst the best of all, was a mentor-cum-boss who kept us grounded, expanded our ideas of what real-time goals are and gave us a day off to work on ourselves. Certain hours to make our skills better, even in areas of non-expertise. Work experiences of such people, from restaurants to start ups to million dollar firms have set a career journey ahead for me to look forward to.
From what I observed, the importance of professional networking was the most important aspect of work.
I had assumed that beginning a start up is easy, until the time that I saw the late hours gone into it. A best job would definitely be the one which is close to you as a person with your already set goals in your framework. A job which would allow you to become better and better at something, and equally adds value to your passions.
To the first boss, whom I learnt from, to write , negotiate, network, perform and build, Thank you for the efforts to work alongside and for revealing the happiness in creating something. With time, I can confidently begin to envision my path forward. My definition of success and it’s heights have transformed now. 😊
