The human heart is so stupid.

I have had one meal in three days. The human heart is so stupid. It’s the only thing that can force your brain to shut down. It’s so dumb. It will force you to do things against your will. I drank way more whiskey than I should have lately because this stupid heart of mine is hurting. And that’s not the job of the heart, the heart is a vital organ in the chest that circulates blood through out your veins and arteries to provide oxygen and substance to cells and remove Co2 and toxins. Like it has one job. Does it get bored? Is beating between 60–100 times a minute for 80+ years not enough for the human heart? Does it have to be ambitious?

Make no mistake the human heart is a jerk. When you tell it to shut up, it gets louder. It’s so stupid. It’s the only part of your body that makes you keep going after your brain and everything else is telling you to stop. I’ve never ran a marathon but I bet if I asked some marathon runner why they would do something so grueling, why not just quit when your brain and legs and lungs tell you they don’t want to go on, they would probably say something stupid about their hearts pushing them to the finish line. I bet if you asked fire fighters why they run into burning buildings they will tell you what their stupid heart says because I promise you none of their brains are telling them to do that!

It’s not logical, it’s a risk! The brain gets it! The brain is the poor nerd who gets dragged on all these terrifying adventures screaming “NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!” all along the way. The brain is the accountant, he’s the planner, he has paid attention to every single moment and aspect of life and knows everything you like and hate. He has history books on you, of events and moments. He has charts for comparison! He uses the magic of reasonings to map out your future. He spends every day worried sick about every part of you, your body, your safety and your health. He is always looking for the safest bet.

And then that stupid, inconsiderate, crazy, wild, immature heart goes rogue. He doesn’t have time to listen to the brain. There is things that need to happen!

And the brain knows. The brain knows what will happen if he doesn’t listen to the heart. The heart will become quiet. A silence. Back to work heart, just do your job.

…and then it creeps up. That voice. There’s no more silence. The brain just now has to ignore it. So the heart gets louder. And the brain can’t focus. And the heart grows larger. And the brain can’t adapt quick enough. And then the heart roars a deafening exclamation of its needs, and the brain panics, and starts quickly figuring out how to give the heart what it needs…

And then?! WE GET MUSIC AND MOVIES AND PLAYS AND BOOKS AND POETRY AND SCIENCE AND MATH AND CURES AND HOPE AND FRIENDSHIPS AND ROCKET SHIPS! WE CLIMB MOUNTAINS WE EXPLORE OCEANS WE SAVE LIVES AND WE SING AND DANCE AND WE JUMP OUT OF PLANES AND VISIT VOLCANOES AND DISCOVER SPECIES AND TEACH AND LEARN AND WE HUG AND WE KISS AND AND WE HAVE SEX AND MAKE BABIES AND BUILD BUILDINGS AND BUSINESSES AND CHANGE THE WORLD! WE DO ALL THE THINGS THE BRAIN TOLD US WE COULDN'T DO!

The human heart is so stupid. It never listens to the brain. It never considers risk or failure or pain, it charges into the unknown unaware of the repercussions. For it is not a broken brain that makes us ache. It’s a broken heart.

A broken heart is just as loud but it has no passion. It only has fear. It’s screams out to the brain to not do anything. The unknown is no longer safe, the known isn’t even safe. Because the heart has no charts or history or calculations. It has but passion and pain and it is unapologetic in either. It says don’t eat. It says don’t love. It says stay safe, don’t feel pain. And the brain worried for his friend obliges.

But the human heart is so stupid. It’s so dumb. It has no history, no memory. It forgets, it is always forgetting. You just have to give it time and it’s so dumb it’ll forget about all of that failure and risk and pain.

And then it will call out to you. And we will dance, we will laugh, we love, we will create and explore and blaze forward.

The human heart is so stupid.
