The Ones Who Keep Living

You are alive.

Run your fingers through your hair,

Feel every curl that passes through your fingers,

Slowly bring your hands down over your face,

Your eyes are still there.

They still see,

Even the things you don’t want to see.

Your ears, your nose,

Your mouth?

Can still hear, smell and speak love.

Travel down your neck,

Feel the strength of your spine;

Rigid. Never looking backwards.

Wrap your arms around you,

When was the last time you gave yourself a hug?

Feel everything;

That imperfect midsection you complain about,

The curve of your hips,

The length of your legs.

Rub lovingly at your knees,

They kneel in benediction,

Every morning and every night.

See those feet?

They were made to be firmly planted,

where they need to be,

And to walk away,

When it is time.

Wriggle your fingers and your toes;

You’re still alive.

You don’t believe me?

Place your hands on your breast,

And feel your heartbeat.

Your entire being is a prayer,

You are spiritual gold.

So, he wants you to leave?

Leave.

So he wants to go?

Let him go.

He abused you?

He stifled you?

He said you’d be nothing without him?

He threw years of commitment,

Back in your face?

I understand.

You are heartbroken.

But you just felt the truth;

Nothing else is broken.

You are still alive.

You still have purpose.

You cannot make a person want you.

You cannot make a person treat you right.

Haven’t you figured it out by now?

And no-one, but you,

Will stop you from seeing,

From breathing,

From speaking,

From loving,

From leaving,

From living.

So remind me,

what are you so worried about?
