We have often heard of rags to riches stories about college drop outs who has become self-made billionaires. These stories often lift our spirits when we feel doleful after a bad exam or even when we are tired of academic pressure(you can relate to this if you are studying in an Indian curriculum).

Ofttimes we take it for granted that, if we drop out and start a company; we too will become successful and mint a lot of money. Albeit, we think about success; How many of us really think about the sweat and hard work that crafted these success stories?

When you mull over newspaper articles and blog posts that highlight success stories, you will realize that these are written to glorify the success; They do not talk about the “secret” steps towards success and the number failures the outliers suffered, before reaching the culmination of success.

Success in germane sense is only the tip of the the iceberg; There are a lot of hidden elements that play a crucial role in success.

I am not going tell you how to become a billionaire or millionaire, I assure you that I will spill the beans out; once I become a billionaire myself.

But I can tell you how to become successful in simple things that we do everyday.

  1. Get out of your comfort zone- We often give up, not because we feel that something cannot be achieved; but because our goals lie outside our comfort zone. No one(including me) likes to move beyond their comfort zone. Outside the massive walls of the comfort zone, magic happens. It is where you can learn, grow and achieve the wildest of your dreams.
  2. Take Risks- Taking risks will make you self aware. When you explore new abilities within yourself, You will know what you are good at. This will ultimately lead you to success. There is an interesting concept called “The law of averages”, which states that the more you tend take risk the more are your odds favouring success.
  3. Surround yourself with people who appreciate you- when people expect more from you, your performance tend to increase. Researches have proved that this is indeed true and in psychology this effect is termed as Pygmalion effect.
  4. Never be afraid of failure- Always remember that failures are not the end; think of them as lessons, which will help you march through the path of success. Keep your hopes high, no matter how many times you fail.
  5. Network with everyone you know- Listen to what everyone has to say, whether the person is your favorite or not. This will help you gather ideas and will open you up to varied perspectives.

6. Differentiate between curious and caring people- Most of the people around us are curious about what we do and they praise us often. But there are only very few that really care about what we do. Befriend the people who really care, this will give you a confidence boost in whatever you do. You will be able to openly talk about your endeavors with them, their feedback will help you gain constructive insights.
