THINK EFFECTIVELY
“ Few people think more than two or three times a year. I have made an international reputation for myself by thinking once or twice a week.” — George Bernard Shaw
Everyone thinks. The problem is everyone thinks useless things all the time. What G.B. Shaw meant by the word ‘think’ here is effective thinking. And, not everyone thinks effectively as everyone does not have an international reputation and success of Bernard Shaw or other great people like him. Thinking makes a man and defines him; success is just a yardstick to measure a man.
After studying the lives of many great personalities of the world, I dare say that the only difference between a great man and an ordinary one is the quality of the mind, and how effectively and frequently it is utilized. There is no doubt about it that the mind and the thoughts that reside in it build the personality of the man.
A. B. Alcott said, “Thought means life, since those who do not think do not live in any high or real sense. thinking makes the man.” A man is what he thinks. Thinking makes a man different from others; his personality, his actions, his approach to various problems of life are shaped by his thought process. Effective thinking will help us to make great strides in each and every area in life, and help us to achieve great success and happiness in our lives.
“Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is the possible reason why so few engage in it.” — Henry ford
5 Things to keep in mind for effective thinking:
- Positive Thinking —
Ones you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you will start having positive results.
— Willie Nelson
One of the easiest ways to think positively is to take every failure, challenge in life as a learning experience, and to apply the learned lesson in successive attempts.
2. “Anything that makes you weak physically, intellectually and spiritually, reject as poison.” — Swami Vivekananda.
Any thoughts that dampen your spirit or enthusiasm must be rejected outright. At first, it may be forced rejection but with practice, one can avoid such demotivating thoughts altogether from one’s mind without such compulsion.
3. “Talk to yourself at least once in a Day. Otherwise, you may miss a meeting with an EXCELLENT person in this World…” by Swami Vivekananda
One must motivate one’s own self by self-conversation. Everything you say to yourself must be positive so that you encourage yourself to achieve and work with perfection.
4. Remember these quotes of Swami Vivekananda if you ever feel like giving up:
“Arise! Awake! and stop not until the goal is reached.”
“The world is the great gymnasium where we come to make ourselves strong.”
“All the powers in the universe are already ours. It is we who have put our hands before our eyes and cry that it is dark.”
At last,
You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you what to think and how to think. The path can be shown, but it is the traveler alone who decides to take the journey or not to reach the destination.
