To Be Realistic Like Che Guevara = Not to Be Realistic Like Will Smith

Goals should be realistic and flexible… Keep your expectations realistic… I’m not a pessimist, I’m a realist… — Such mindsets are very common. On the one hand, they have a rational grain, they help “not to wander in the clouds” and “to stand firmly on the ground”, but, as Will Smith correctly noted:

“Being realistic is the most commonly traveled road to mediocrity”

Paolo Coelho could add to this that one can not achieve a dream for only one reason: fear of failure. To justify this fear, some hide behind the view that they are not pessimists, but realists. Well, okay, but then be realistic, like the French students were during the “Paris Spring” of 1968. On their banners, they carried the slogan:

“Be realistic — demand the impossible!”

These words are often attributed to Che Guevara, a fiery revolutionary who sought to change the world. It is worth remembering Che’s words at those moments when the rational-pessimistic-realistic part of your consciousness will hover like a kite over your aspirations and hopes.

Demand the impossible, avoid mediocrity, go for your dream! Good luck! :)
