The fascination with Princess Diana may be seen as frivolous to some — just the story of a woman wearing beautiful clothes. Society prefers to separate frivolous (i.e. things that are enjoyed by women) from those things which are important. However, public figures like Diana reflect very important undercurrents and truths about society as a whole. The frivolous and the important are one and the same, they inform each other.

Princess Diana is the archetypal victim of a true crime. She is a rich, beautiful, white lady who ultimately becomes tangential to the lore and story of her tragic death. It’s important, however, to firmly ground Diana’s lived experiences as a woman within the context of her story. Her death is not some mystery to solve or conspiracy to create, but rather an opportunity to see just how connected frivolity and importance are — how the life of one woman can say something about all of our lives.
