“The planet is dying! Society is about to collapse!” You hear these words, you might even read some compelling studies, charts, and projections.

“We’re going to run out of water! We’re going to lose our coastal cities and low-lying countries to sea level rise! Millions will die in scorching heatwaves! It will be chaos!”

Unimaginable, you think. Just truly horrible.

And then you realize your coffee has gotten cold — you need to warm it up. The dog needs to be taken out for a pee. And after you scratch your butt for a moment while the microwave heats the coffee, you decide it’s time for a nice warm shower.

Wait — what about the impending climate chaos?! What about the horrible suffering and deprivation that’s coming for millions, even billions of people? Your own CHILDREN and GRANDCHILDREN could suffer, for God’s sake!

Maybe, but today there are bills to pay. And one of your kids is having trouble at school — you need to talk to her teacher. And you’ve run out of almond milk — looks like a trip to the grocery store is in order. You step out of the shower, your day planned. And none of it involves reacting to the terror of climate change. Not really.
