Progress of railway line doubling from Daund Jn to Gulbarga.

Daund Jn — Gulbarga section in one of the most important railway sections in Indian Railways. This is the line which connects Mumbai with the other major cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai.

This section is of 300 km and it is a mix of Single lines, Double lines and electrified lines. This railway line is being doubled and electrified at the same time. The progress of the construction works on this section can be observed as below.

Daund Jn — Bhigwan: The Doubling of this 27 km section is started in 1997 with an estimated cost of 47.00 crores [1]. It is completed in March 2002[2]. The Electrification of this section is started as a part of Pune — Daund — Bhigwan electrification project [3] in December 2012. The total cost of electrification is estimated to be 161.90 crores. The tender for this project can be accessed in rvnl archives [4]. This section is opened to public on 03rd June 2017. [5]

Bhigham — Mohol: The Project for Doubling Bhigham — Mohol section is represented as Daund-Gulbarga DL Railway Line Project — Phase I. It includes construction of roadbed, major and minor bridges, track linking, outdoor signaling and electrical works. Some key features of this project are

Doubling of Bhigwan — Mohol and Hotgi — Gulbarga sections
  • Railway Length: 127.14 Kms
  • Contractor: IL&FS-Kalindee (JV) [6]
  • Authority: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited
  • Project awarded: 06-Jun-2012
  • Project should have been completed by 31-Dec-2015.

Recent update on this project is from August 2016, the revised project completion date was 31-Aug-2018 (Source:- Chief Engineer, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited-Mumbai Division).

In this package, Vakav to Mohal section (12.59 Kms) is opened to public in 03rd June 2017. [5]

Doubling of Pakni — Mohol section in 2006 — 2008.

Mohol — Pakni: This Doubling of this 17 km section is started in 2006 with an estimated cost of 65 crores. This project is executed by RVNL and it is completed in Dec-2008. [7]

Doubling of Pakni — Solapur section — 2006–2008

Pakni — Solapur: The Doubling of this 16.28 km section is started in 2006 and completed in 2008. The project is executed by RVNL and Rly together. The anticipated cost of this project is 41 crores. [8]

Solahpur — Hotgi: This section is of 15 Kms. Doubling is completed. No updates on Electrification. I have no information when this line was doubled. All I can find is that, gauge conversion of this section started in 1997–1998 [9].

Hotgi — Gulbarga: The Project for Doubling Hotgi — Gulbarga section is represented as Daund-Gulbarga DL Railway Line Project — Phase II. It includes construction of roadbed, major and minor bridges, track linking, outdoor signaling and electrical works. Some key features of this project are

  • Authority: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited
  • Project awarded: 14-Jun-2012
  • Budget: 238.15 cr
  • Project should have been completed by 31-Dec-2015.

Recent update on this project is from August 2016, the revised project completion date was 31-Aug-2018 (Source:- Chief Engineer, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited-Mumbai Division).

In this package, Akkalkot–Tilati (13.88 Kms) section is opened to public in 03rd June 2017. [5]
