3 London Based Independent Hip Hop Artists You Should Know

Melanin 9: Melanin 9 released his first solo project in 2007. Since then he’s gone on to appear on Charlie Sloth’s “Fire In The Booth” Freestyle Series, run his own independent label “Red Snow Records” and collaborate with NY heavyweight Roc Marciano (Melanin 9 ft Roc Marciano “White Russian” prod by Anatomy Official Video).
In 2012 he released “Magna Carta” (Features and production from Madame Pepper, Hey! Zeus, Anatomy, Ohbliv + More) which was one of the best UK Hip Hop projects to have been released that year. His wordplay and abstract imagery stand out as well as his solid beat selection.
Teknical Development: Teknical Development is 1 half of the group Obba Supa and 1 third of the recently formed group Man of Booom. The first Obba Supa album “To: AM — Free: AM (Label: Project Mooncircle) was released in 2009, his raw delivery and freeform style were distinct and well suited for the very experimental Hip Hop production of Hey! Zeus.
The London wordsmith has refined his style with time and with the assistance of German based producers like Bluestaeb (Bluestaeb — The Mission ft. Teknical Development) and Figub Brazlevic come up with some very dope singles that would have most likely served as precusor to the recent Man of Booom album “Back To The Booom”
Remus: While having minimal music to his discography (aside from a very early recorded mixtape) dont let that fool you, this young Londoner is highly skilled in the field. I was first made aware of Remus’ music by my brother via a YouTube video with a then little known Lil Simz and Chucks.
His flow and impressive rhyme schemes stood out; this was only made more evident in an SBTV freestyle (Remus | Warm Up Sessions [S7.EP34]: SBTV) he did a few months back over the “Chum” beat. While Its still early to determine whether he will be able to apply his strengths to an official full length project, his current abilities as an MC are undeniable.
