Helping Tech Professionals Go Remote!

Remotive is a community, a newsletter and a job board for people looking to work remotely.

It was founded in 2014 by Rodolphe Dutel, then a remote employee at Buffer, because he couldn’t find any quality content on remote work.

So, before turning into a company that generates six figures in revenue, Remotive.io started as one article on Medium with a newsletter signup form. That article got viewed thousands of times and generated 110 signups.

Here‘s the article: 5 Tricks to Get More Done While Working Remotely

The Beginning

Rodolphe started the blog for Productive Remote Workers on medium and kept writing, generating over 400 signups for the newsletter. At this point he decided to create a brand (Remote + Productive = Remotive) and set up a website.

Before actually offering anything other than the content, he used Typeform to figure out what his subscribers actually wanted or needed.

Since he didn’t have any jobs to publish yet, visitors who clicked on Jobs, got this Typeform, which allowed the Remotive team to gather some data on the interests of their subscribers.

Rodolphe even went as far, as writing the Welcome Email manually to the first 700 subscribers!

This also helped him better understand the users in order to create a useful product for them.

The Customer Experience was so good, that Remotive got submitted to ProductHunt by a fan, without the founder knowing it! This led to incredibly quick growth in subscribers.

After almost 1 year of sharing content with their community (at this point over 8.5K subscribers), Remotive made it’s first Dollar by charging $250 for an Ad in the newsletter.

The Features

Fast forward to 2019 and Remotive is no longer just a Newsletter. It’s a full platform geared towards Remote workers and those who want to go remote. They started offering more and more value to their subscribers and they’re now a one stop shop for all things remote.

Remote Jobs

The first thing you’ll see on the home page of Remotive.io is their Remote Job Board with over 500 different jobs at many of the well known startups. You can filter by category or just search with some keywords.

As an employer, you can post a remote job for $299 with some premium add-ons for more visibility.

Remote Companies

Remotive publishes a list of almost 2.400 (as of October 2019) tech companies and startups that work and hire remotely. You can just scroll through the list and see if there’s a company you’d like to work for, or you can search for specific keywords and filter things like the location of the company.

Not only do they have a list of remote companies, but also a list of salaries, submitted by remote workers from all over the world. This is information that will help you a lot with salary negotiations.

Slack Community

Remotive’s paid Slack Community with over 1.200 members is the place to be if you’re looking to interact with experienced remote workers ranging from freelance community managers to even founders and CEOs of companies that might be hiring. The cost of joining is a one-time payment of $99.

They have various channels where you can discuss anything from finding remote jobs, to staying productive as a remote worker to nomading and even parenting!

The other great thing is that you get to interact directly with relevant people who might have contacts or even be the co-founder of a company you want to work for. Remotive’s Slack community is kind of like digital networking platform amongst Remoties. 😄

In addition to that, members of the Slack Community get access to exclusive content that’s not available freely on Remotive. This private trove contains ideas designed to help you make better decisions and take advantage of opportunities where others can’t. The content includes:

  • The Remotive YouTube MBA list
  • Exclusive interviews
  • Discounted access to Remotive courses

Newsletter

It all started with the Newsletter, so of course Remotive wouldn’t shut it down. You can subscribe to specific job categories to get job posts and you’ll continue to receive top news and tips around remote work, just as their other 25.000+ subscribers.

Other Assets

Since Remotive is a full platform nowadays, they offer many little things that can help you immensely but aren’t promoted very much and first have to be found on the website. These assets include:

Conclusion

If you want to make it as a remote employee or freelancer, you HAVE to check out Remotive now! Even if you’re already a remote worker, you can benefit a lot from the Slack community and all the other features they offer.
