This grabbed our attention -because this survey highlights how the stress of “unclear goals,” is a fundamental driver of stress. Not only is it rated as the highest stress driver across every gender, department and age group, but the runner up categories of “bad manager” “difficult co-worker” at 14% and “too long hours” at 13% are also directly related to unclear goals. A key role for a good manager is creating clarity and focus for their teams. To add to that one of the biggest causes of interpersonal and inter-team stress is lack of being on the same page about goals and roles. Long hours are often caused by focusing on too much versus clarity and alignment on working on the few things that really matter.
