Introducing the next generation of indoor positioning: super precise Indoorway Hive

We’re very excited to introduce to you our indoor positioning system that we’ve been working on over the past year: Indoorway Hive.

Indoorway Hive has been designed for all developers and innovation seekers who want to keep up with the latest trends in indoor positioning or expand their portfolio with smart building solutions.

Indoorway Hive — the new way to smarten up indoors

With Indoorway Hive you can get highly accurate data about foot and asset traffic. It’s more centralized from our previous system and based on our original hardware: pocket-sized Tags equipped with precise up to 30 cm localization engines, and Indoorway Hubs that use ultra-wide band (UWB) radio technology. Indoorway Hive helps with property management, asset monitoring, process optimization and many more. It can also serve as an advanced access control.

The (r)evolution of our technology

Let’s start from the beginning. In July 2017 we officially launched our company and its first products. Apart from ready-to-use smart building solutions we presented Indoorway’s indoor positioning system based on beacons (any beacons available on the market) and apps for smartphones (SDK on both iOS and Android). We focused on features for end-users and making buildings guest-friendly for everyone. Thus, Indoorway Open offers: proximity messaging, indoor navigation, smart tagging, POI detection, and many more. At the same time, it unlocks the data about indoor traffic.

However, as we talked to our clients, users and testers, we realized that there is also a strong need for a solution, which requires no smartphones, and at the same time puts greater emphasis on access control and pure analytics. That’s why we started working on Indoorway Hive based on our own hardware: more accurate and all-purpose. We came up with Indoorway Hubs and Tags, which are the shape and size of a typical access card, but can also be adjusted to customers’ or users’ needs. Sani, for example, got a smaller and more comfortable version of Indoorway Tag attached to her collar.

The opportunities these little devices create are limitless. You can stick them to any mobile asset to track its movement or hand over to employees to improve their work safety. The precision of this system lays in its advanced technology. We’ll discuss it in our next, more technical post.

Indoorway Hive features

Why do we refer to a hive in our new technology? Because Indoorway Hive is all about organizing and upgrading enclosed structures — and that’s what bees do, too. They adjust their tiny, made-man houses to their needs and utilize available spaces to fullest, at the same time boosting their productivity and comfort. We believe people can do that with Indoorway’s new tools to digitize buildings. What exactly can one do with Indoorway Hive? Among its features you’ll find:

Asset monitoring and management

Indoorway Tags can be attached to objects, vehicles or other physical elements. They keep the company aware of their location, usage, maintenance or assisting in stocktaking, at all time.

Safety and prevention

Unauthorized access to a restricted area or entering a certain zone without prior training can trigger a signal alarm. The system records indoor traffic constantly to track and identify dangerous behavior.

Access Control

Indoorway Tag can serve as a unique access card, equipped with precise up to 30 cm localization engine.

IoT component

Ventilation, heating and other elements adjusted to the number of people in a given zone and aligned with indoor movement data.

Evacuation systems

Indoorway evacuation system enables verifying if everyone managed to leave the building. It also indicates the current location of those who haven’t evacuated yet.

Process optimization

Indoorway provides tools to monitor indoor traffic. Thanks to movement recording and heat maps, it delivers insights about utilization on zones and assets, average time spent in a zone, etc.

Indoorway Hive v. Indoorway Open

Basically, from now on you can start using Indoorway’s indoor location features by implementing one of our two technologies: Indoorway Open or Indoorway Hive, and it’s up to you which one you choose. It all depends on the specific needs of a given business.

Indoorway Open:

  • Perfect for creating smart building mobile apps
  • Works with any iOS and Android smartphones, as well as any beacons available on the market
  • Analytics and beyond: interactive maps, indoor navigation, proximity messages, and many more features for end-users

Indoorway Hive:

  • Perfect for in-depth, precise analysis of indoor traffic
  • No smartphone needed, it uses tags (the shape and size of an ID card)
  • Can be used in many ways, for example as an access control to boosts user experience in any building

Do you want to improve safety in a venue by smartening it up? Or maybe you’re looking for tools to improve efficiency of an industrial or work site? No matter what your focus is, Indoorway tools are suitable for any business. Not ready to make the decision? New technology = new possibilities

We strongly believe that Indoorway Hive will give you new ways to explore data about indoor traffic and even more precise real-time and historic information about movement. Indoorway Hive is the first indoor positioning system that uses our own hardware, so we’ll appreciate your feedback!
