A Poem

Sri Aurobindo

A supernal scheme for His golden Earth,
And occult aim of each sentient birth.
The long aspired union of soil and sky,
Dim glimmer of every seer-visioned eye.

The dire antagonist will and their discharge ancient,
No prophet or lesser god can circumvent.
He must come, who cast himself into the void.
The leap primordial leading to our humanoid.

A crux was reached, a fork and skewed scales,
A flutter might tilt to doom perishing the ages.
A million him on every plane mused in unison,
Not in vain does He descend or His vision begun.

Matter’s fortress had to be breached and won,
Recast by His light its makings and grim foundation.
An encampment and apparatus in subtle-physical made,
His many-accomplished sheath did adieu bade.

His fuller splendour could not here natively be,
For this is He outlives the pralayas and their purpose see.
As a single night’s firefly to a million-yeared sun,
Grew the already greatest when earth sheath did shun.

In five days built the bridge and future world,
Peopled with His jewelled dreams untold.
Our each stuttering act by faith fashioned,
Is He weaving future by and through all our mind omissioned.

The chequered attempts of our long pining earth,
Her wistful dream for Her Lord in each new birth.
Crowned now by our Forerunner and far-mounting flame,
And thus we are His sons of Heaven by Her body of Earth.

Note: Offered to Sri Aurobindo by us, Kali's Brood and Murli R, on the occasion of His shedding the physical sheath to hasten and make feasible the descent of the Supramental in the Physical, this day of 5th December 2019.
