I will admit that I was quite the skeptic when RTX Voice was announced, believing it was another “gotcha” to shock another wave of sales. Now it’s something that I never thought I could live without.

According the the NVIDIA website “RTX Voice leverages NVIDIA RTX GPUs and their AI capabilities to remove distracting background noise from your [audio].” Before actually hearing the difference I found it hard to believe that there would be any noticeable difference between this product and existing noise suppression software. I was wrong. This example from Barnacules Nerdgasm shows how advanced this technology is.

There does seem to be some loss in the audio quality when more audio filtering is taking place, but in a normal use case it seems to not have a major effect. The fact this application can remove 99% of the background noise could be a game changer when it comes to buying shock mounts and other expensive microphone equipment.

Now the need to have a RTX capable graphics card can be very unnerving because they cost upwards of $300. Although, as with all things this wall has been broken — It’s possible to run the RTX Voice plugin on any NVIDIA GPU(best results with a 10 series card). The link below has instructions on how to enable it, but I would proceed at your own risk because we don’t yet know the issues this could cause to device life.

This is an impressing piece of technology and I cannot wait to see it developed even further. Instead of releasing a cheep gimmick, for publicity, they released a full featured product — to say the least, I’m impressed. NVIDIA is, and has been, breaking the hardware / software barrier and I hope they don’t stop anytime soon.
