Wayfair is under fire from possible involvement in child trafficking. That is, of course, if you believe classic Reddit conspiracies. According to the post on /r/conspiracy, which had zero evidence, there were several WFX Utility cabinets for sale that were marked at prices that some may seem too high. That’s not the only issue. These cabinets had uncommon names that coincidently correlated with several people who have gone missing.

The post seemed to garner the eyes of the internet and led to a full scale “Twitter investigation.” Suddenly this so-called coincidence was seen throughout the website on dozens of products, all sharing similar high prices. Wayfair users are also experiencing a weird glitch that when they click on one of the market posts, in question, a reasonable price for the product shows up. Because of this, it is being used as fuel for the mass hysteria.

This incident is occurring at a very awkward time for America. Ghislaine Maxwell, a close associate of Jeffrey Epstein, has recently been arrested on accounts of allegedly having a role in conspiring with Epstein to recruit, groom, and sexually abuse underage girls. These incidents would explain the instability and distrust of the American people when it comes to child trafficking.

MediaWise, a non-profit fact-finding company, reached out to Wayfair and received a statement that completely dismisses the accusations that Wayfair is being used as a middle man to traffic children. Their message has been taken with a grain of salt from the vast majority of twitter users. This is not surprising because twitter users are known for their distrust in corporations.

Personally, as I pondered the claim that Wayfair is being used to traffic children, I failed to see the logic behind it. I cannot see how a large business would use its marketplace to sell children, especially when it is a public storefront. We tend to see these disgusting rings being sneakier in their efforts, and there is no way the public would not have noticed this before if it was true.

Most importantly, each of us should remember that the original claims were baseless and hold no merit. That is not to say there should not be a fair and just investigation into the claims, rather we should not cancel an entire company for a claim that is based on zero credible evidence.

The most important take away from all of this is to keep our families close and to exercise extreme caution when meeting with people we don’t know. It’s disturbing the thought of a child forced into trafficking, we each should do our part to report incidents where such may occur, even a hypothetical such as this one. I hope that government agencies will look into the claim and that if the accusations prove to be true, that justice will occur for all the families involved. Until then, we must do our best not to get caught up in baseless hypotheticals.
