What does AWG mean in Ethernet Cable?

When looking at your ethernet cables there are a lot of words written on the jacket in which you might need some help clarifying what they mean. One of those terms on the jacket is AWG. So what does AWG mean?
It means American Wire Guage and is the North American standardization of the sizing system of cables. The numbers attached to AWG help determine the size of the wires. It has a an inverse relationship. So the larger the number AWG the small the wires inside the jacket. The smaller the AWG the larger the wires.
