Guess Who’s Back: Infiniverse Relaunching on Solana!
Welcome back to Infiniverse — The World’s Digital Layer!
Today we are pleased to announce that Infiniverse is relaunching on Solana! For those of you that are new: Infiniverse is an augmented reality (AR) metaverse running on the blockchain. Unlike in virtual reality (VR) based metaverses, in Infiniverse virtual content is overlaid on top of the real world, using a smartphone or smart glasses. This allows users to remain connected to the real world and other people around them, while simultaneously experiencing digital content. Infiniverse will facilitate the registry of land, the distribution of digital content and provide users with a marketplace to exchange their digital assets and land NFTs.
Our vision is to create a rich parallel universe that AR content consumers can seamlessly switch into and a thriving virtual economy which allows content creators to create real economic value without a middleman taking a large cut. Infiniverse enables people to create custom 3D experiences and assets inside an immersive augmented environment that is persistently connected to our real world. This means that whenever a user decides to create or place digital content at a specific location, other users will be able to see and interact with that content at that location.
Infiniverse lets you discover the world in a brand-new way, by giving you the opportunity to create anything you can imagine and generate completely new types of revenue streams in a digital layer on top of the real world. The blockchain gives users full control and security over their virtual currency, land NFTs and assets, while content is duplicated and distributed across the Arweave network. We believe that decentralized, immutable and transparent ownership registration on a highly efficient and scalable blockchain, is crucial for our augmented reality platform to be successful. It gives users true ownership over their digital assets, independent from any central authority which could decide at any moment to shut down its servers.
While AR-technology is still maturing, the Infiniverse digital layer can primarily be accessed using a mobile application. Initially, the platform runs on iOS and Android devices which support AR frameworks with positional tracking, such as ARKit and ARCore. By using your mobile device’s camera to scan your environment and your GNSS sensor to determine your geographic location, Infiniverse will provide you with real-time visuals of its augmented layer that is placed on top of the real world around you.
Through your phone, you are able to see and interact with other users and the 3D experiences that you and they have created. In the future, support will be extended to smart glasses such as Microsoft HoloLens and Magic Leap, when these devices are more mature and widespread, appropriate for outdoor use and include GNSS chips for geographic location tracking.
The Story So Far
The Infiniverse adventure began in July 2017, when the idea was first formulated. Infiniverse, Inc. was incorporated in January 2018, in the US state of Delaware. While mostly self-funded, a small grant of $50,000 was received from Samsung Next in February 2018, in exchange for helping them build WhARe, their AR cloud product. This allowed us to launch our beta product on the EOS blockchain at the end of 2018.
While our community of supported showed great enthusiasm for the concept and early product, unfortunately we were unable to find further funding, and the project had to be put on hold, with the company shutting down in 2020. However, with the explosion of excitement around NFTs and metaverse throughout 2021 and now into 2022, we decided that we owed it to ourselves, and our community to give it another shot. Infiniverse, has a different take on the concept of metaverse. Indeed, while most of the metaverse projects that have been coming out in the past months have been based on VR, we believe that AR will be the heart of the metaverse.
Relaunching on Solana
As a result, we are relaunching Infiniverse on Solana, with a new land sale planned in the coming weeks. As for our loyal supporters from EOS: we will announce what is happening with their existing land registrations soon. While we still believe that EOSIO is a great piece of technology, unfortunately various issues in the community resulted in a significantly smaller userbase than many competing blockchain platforms.
When EOS launched in 2018, it was truly superior to anything else available. In 2022, there are multiple scalable blockchain platforms to choose from. However, we find Solana, with its capability of 50,000 transactions per second, strong community, and focus on ease of use, to be the most compelling. Indeed, Bank of America predicts that Solana will be the Visa of the digital asset world.
