Project background
Daisy is a project launched by Shohei Ohsawa, a specially appointed Assistant Professor at The University of Tokyo, which has been in the research phase for the past year.
The fundamental technology being applied in Daisy was accepted at ICLR 2018, an international conference on artificial intelligence held in Canada, and for which the technical paper has already been published.
About Daisy
Daisy is creating an AI platform where developers from all over the world can collaborate together in the creation of AI. Three resources are essential in developing AI, “big data” for information input, “model (algorithm)” for data analysis and “machine power” for data processing. However, it is difficult for any individual enterprise to prepare all of these elements inhouse. As a result, it has become difficult to create highly accurate AI.
In response to this the Daisy platform enables the creation of highly-accurate AI by integrating the resources of varying developers from all over the world.
In regards to incentive and motivation for user participation, Daisy has developed an original compensation algorithm. When different developers come together and collaborate on the creation of an AI, Daisy calculates each developer’s “Contribution Score” toward the AI. This contribution score is then used to decide the compensation amount for each developer. It is a system designed for improving AI’s accuracy in which users who provide high value, or who make multiple contributions will receive greater compensation.
Future Developments
Basic service offering will start in early 2019, with the goal of creating an easy to use development environment for data scientists from all around the world. Currently, we are continuing the development of the Daisy Platform as well as gathering valuable input data needed for highly accurate AI with the cooperation of each country’s data owning entities. Bringing AI development into its next phase the Age of “AI 2.0.” Daisy will bring change to the traditional AI development scene, and contribute to the expansion of higher accuracy AI.

Currently, all of the world’s data, as well as AI development has been taken by force under the dominating control of GAFA (Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon). For example, it is difficult for medium and small size companies to develop their own AI. By changing this current state of centralized authoritarian rule to a decentralized form, even in the slightest, we should be able to democratize the concept of AI, making a world where we will be better able to enjoy the conveniences AI brings[1] .
