In the time of social media and terms such as “viral” and “cancelled”; Kanye West has managed to live both terms at the same time, time and time again. Specifically, this past October, Kanye, now called “Ye”, tweeted about how he would wake up on go “death con 3” on Jewish people, but he couldn’t because black people are the real Jews. One particular platform has seen a lot of activity relating to Kanye west and his antisemitic acts- Twitter has been dealing with Kanye and his controversial posts the whole month of October, which led to them giving him yet another temporary ban from the app. Instagram would soon follow in Twitters footsteps and ban him from use of the app and his beliefs are no longer aligning with companies such as Twitter, Instagram, Adidas, Gap, etc.

Per data from Wikipedia’s site, Ye’s page has a total of 245,121 page views on October 26, 2022. Twitter on the other hand had 22,178 views on October 26, 2022. To put these numbers into perspective, on October 24, 2022, Kanye had 66,433 page views, whereas Twitter had 12,349; two days later, both pages had a massive increase within views, which could correlate with Kanye’s tweets towards the Jewish community. In the whole month of October, Ye has seen a total of 2,125,116 page views, compared to September when he had a total of 433,662 views.

Page Views from October in Logs

These number fluctuations can be correlated to Ye’s increase in tweets from October 7–28th. Through these two and a half weeks, Ye managed to tweet multiple claims about Jewish people, as well as go onto doing interviews, which ended up circling over twitter. Through these claims of Ye and massive views on his interviews, Twitter and Ye saw an increase of searches on the app when it came to the month of October. Twitter has since banned Ye from tweeting as he has violated their policies, but some have come to his side to “welcome” him back to the app.

On other terms, when comparing different languages on Wikipedia to the English wiki, the language with the highest searches and page views about “Kanye West” and “Twitter” was Palestine Arabic. This language is spoken in Palestine where they have a massive Jewish community, so it should come to no surprise that their population is searching for news about Kanye West and “googling” him on Twitter. These kinds of searches can result in the spike of page views to the wiki site of both Twitter and Kanye west during the time of Oct 7–28th.

Although Ye doesn’t claim to be a part of any extremist group, he has no guilt about the comments he has made toward the Jewish community. Even though Kanye West, “Ye” is a world-famous producer, the demand to learn more about him seems to be very apparent. The increase in searches on Twitter about Ye illustrate a need to understand and view his comments and appearances this past month. Most people have viewed Ye as a renowned producer, but in the recent years, he is looking “crazier” than his fans would like to see. Most people recently have said they are separating the artist from their music, but they feel they can’t do that with the new version of Ye that he is persuading; with his recent actions, a population of people want to stop listening to Kanye all together because he simply doesn’t “deserve” his fans anymore. Regardless of if Kanye believes he is a “real” Jewish person, it is morally wrong to make public claims about going “death con 3” on the Jewish population.

It is because of an event this “insane” to most of the public, that the demand to be educated on this topic has been increasing. The amount of reposts and shares relating to Kanye’s actions have a relationship with the number of searches about him as he is continuing to “trend” and be cancelled, all at the same time. With over 2 million page views this past month, Kanye went from “irrelevant” to relevant on Wikipedia’s trending searches. Just because you are “trending” does not mean you are trending for a good reason- Ye has yet to learn to consequences of his actions and continues to say public derogatory claims at the Jewish community.
