How has Hailey Bieber’s Wiki page views changed since her drama with Selena Gomez?
If you’re a Gen Z and you’ve been on Tik Tok in the past few weeks, chances are you have come across the Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber drama that has caused fans all over America to get stirred up. But where is this drama coming from? In February of 2023, fans of Selena Gomez speculated that Hailey Bieber and her friends were shading Selena about her eyebrows and that set off a whole whirlwind of rumors and drama to be spread. But the real drama is rooted from the romantic flame both celebrities share, the infamous Justin Bieber. Selena and Justin dated on and off from 2010 to 2018. Shortly after their breakup it was publicly announced that Justin and Hailey Baldwin were engaged, which fans thought was strange. Since the recent drama started, Hailey has been branded a “mean girl” along with some of her A-list friends. But with all this drama out in the open on social media, both Selena and Hailey have generated a lot of buzz and attention. Selena and Hailey have been well known celebrities for years and I am interested in knowing more about how their Wikipedia page views have changed over their careers to the midst of their drama now.
Selena Gomez is a worldwide famous singer and actress. She rose to fame in 2007 when she starred in the Disney Channel hit show “Wizards of Waverly Place” as her most notable character, Alex Russo, and has since grown exponentially. She has released 3 studio albums and by October of 2015 she had sold over 6.7 million albums worldwide. During this time Selena was receiving around 18,000 Wikipedia page views per day and since then she has still been getting an average of 16,000 views a day.
On the other hand, Hailey Bieber did not start her modeling career until late 2014 when she was first signed to a modeling agency. Unfortunately she did not have a personal Wikipedia page until October of 2018, a month after her notorious wedding. In the months following, her page views were averaging at around 450 views per day.
The graph above is a comparison of Selena and Hailey’s page views up until today. I would like to go on record and say I do not think either celebrity is necessarily better than the other. However it is clear that, over the years, Selena Gomez could be considered a more popular celebrity than Hailey Bieber based on her page views. From the start of Hailey’s Wikipedia page, her views have remained pretty stagnant up until the end of 2021 when she appeared at the Met Gala with husband, Justin Bieber. Since then Hailey has appeared in the public eye regularly and has been receiving more attention from fans.
The graph above shows a close up of the end section from the previous graph, from the start of 2023 to when the drama started to stir up and decline. According to pop culture magazine Glamour, February 22nd was the day the drama started when Selena Gomez surpassed Hailey’s BFF, Kylie Jenner’s, number of followers on Instagram. The same day Hailey posted something about her eyebrows, which led Selena fans to assume she was shading Selena who had made a Tik Tok about overlaminating her eyebrows the day before. From this graph we can see that towards the end of February, Haileys page views start to increase rapidly. Fans became so absorbed in this drama and Tik Toks and rumors started swirling around about who is “Team Selena ‘’ or “Team Hailey ‘’. People who have never heard of these celebrities were seeing this drama come up on their social media, which shows how overblown this drama became.
When looking at both celebrities over time, Hailey has fewer spikes in page views than Selena does. However the highest amount of page views that Hailey has received over her entire career overlaps with the drama she is involved in. The maximum views she has received is slightly above 70,000 on March 1st 2023. (Guess who’s birthday is March 1st… Justin Bieber.) On this day, Hailey posted a birthday tribute to her husband and was flooded by negative comments from Selena fans.
I’m not surprised people turned to Wikipedia to know more about who this “Hailey Bieber” is that they have been seeing all over social media. Drama tends to spark people’s interest in celebrities and attracts curiosity, making the public want to learn more about the star. All of this drama regarding Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber can be considered a great representation about how celebrities’ involvement in drama in the public eye can lead to more popularity and attention from social media goers.
