When we think of hormones, first thoughts that comes to many women minds are PMS, Menopause and PCOS.

Most of them never think of hormones in a positive way, as the essential chemical messengers they are. Hormones have a really bad rap, and it’s high time they got a reputational makeover. After all, they are responsible for almost every process in your body. They are the stars of the show, not some understudy, and frankly, they should be revered.

Let’s think of these hormones as being in a tiered system — a hormonal hierarchy, if you will I consider the tier 1 hormones, cortisol and insulin, the queen bees of the endocrine system. If they become imbalanced, they disrupt the tier 2 hormones, pregnenolone and DHEA. Subsequently, if those hormones go on the fritz, they impact the tier 3 hormones: estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, the thyroid hormones, and melatonin. But the tier 1 hormones can also directly disrupt the tier 3 hormones. See how important they are?

So, we will first focus on only these two hormones which can impact and make our lives better. Cortisol and insulin are at the top of the hormonal hierarchy because they’re “life and death” hormones. Read about cortisol and insulin here.

For balancing hormones, our primary target should be : Insulin and Cortisol
