Cybersecurity as a career – Roadmap links
In one of the Cybersecurity WhatsApp groups I am part of, there was a query from an IT Infrastructure Project Manager with 19 years experience as to how he could get into Cybersecurity.
Few of the responses were shocking, to say the least. To cut a long story short, the common theme in the responses were: it is not easy to get into Cybersecurity, you need to have a lot of knowledge in this and that, you need to have this and that certifications…all were in my opinion, blah, blah and blah. I am sure the guy who asked the query must have dug up his feet and gone into a distant corner in his sofa burying his head somewhere in the cushions cursing himself as to why he posted this query!
I felt it morally responsible to clear the air and give hope to the banished soul. I asked the guy to take up a Governance, Risk or Compliance (GRC) role, which will give him a foundation to understand different cybersecurity problem statements. Based on this experience, I told him he can further carve himself a niche in some area of cybersecurity. On seeing this response of mine, the guy was so grateful and thanked me profusely. I felt happy I gave hope to a fellow soul.
As part of my readings, I keep compiling a list of useful resources for cybersecurity beginners or experienced folks as well can refer to during the course of their journey. Here you go.
