Your Contribution to the California Drought
In a 2015 talk on infrastructure, James Fallows proposes that historically there have been “three reasons why the US has been able to overcome stasis— Emergency, Stealth, and Story.” He goes on to say that emergencies of the past have shifted us past logjams, getting us out of our paralyzing situations.
“It may well be that here in California, the drought situation could be that. We don’t know how long the drought will go on. We know that if it goes on for much longer, the way of doing business here can’t be sustained. What does this do to California, to think about its housing patterns, its technology, its resource use, and all the rest?
And then it seems, we forgot.
