Bruce Wayne should come out as Batman.

Oliver Queen will never be Batman.

Most superheroes do not reveal their secret identities out of fear villains will retaliate against their loved ones.

While this is a valid concern it is not as much of a problem for Batman as it is for someone like Oliver Queen.

In season 7 of Arrow Ricardo Diaz comes after Felicity Smoak and William Clayton, Oliver’s wife and son.

Arrow made many changes to Oliver Queen, including having him being trained by Ra’s Al Ghul.

(Oliver trained his friend Roy, but Oliver’s sister Thea had to learn to fight from her father Malcolm Merlyn, and Emiko trained herself or so she says).

While Felicity and William are extraordinary hackers neither of them are trained fighters, except the one time Oliver taught William to box.

Regardless neither of them could take on say assassins one on one and win.

(The League of Assassins are part of Batman’s rogues gallery like all the other super villains, except they kill more and are unknown to the general public, though the other super villains cause more property damage).

The Bat Family’s numerous unmaskings.

The Bat Family doesn’t have this problem. Every member has been trained in at least one style of martial arts.

When Dick Grayson was revealed to be Nightwing he faked his own death and joined a spy agency Spyral.

Jason Todd revealed his identity when trying to kill Penguin. He is now trying his hand as a businessman by taking over Penguin’s club.

(He finally has a real job. Dick has been a cop and more recently a social worker. Barbara was a librarian. Huntress was a teacher and now a fellow spy with Spyral. Cassandra’s appearance but not is known to the government around the time of Batman: War Games. Damian is a bit young for a job. No one knows what Tim, Stephanie, Duke, Harper, Bette, and Kate do for a living.)

In The Batman Who Laughs: The Grim Knight #1 Bruce Wayne is a murderer who is eventually stopped by James Gordon with some help from the FBI. He is arrested but escapes to another Earth.

Bruce Wayne has been unmasked several times, which is why he has impersonators, most notably in Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns.

For the most part nothing changes. He isn’t arrested for his warrant less searches or even hassled about the death of Jason Todd.

Unmasking allows Batman to complete his mission.

Some superheroes do not reveal their secret identities out of a desire to keep their personal and public lives separate.

This is not the case with Batman. He is constantly finding ways to optimize his nights as Batman, to make them longer. He rarely eats, he doesn’t sleep.

He thinks of himself as Batman. He wants to be Batman all the time.

He tried this once in Bruce Wayne: Fugitive. It didn’t work because he tried to go it alone and because he couldn’t utilize his greatest asset: Bruce Wayne.

Bruce Wayne is a billionaire yet he never seems to do much for the citizens of Gotham besides throw charities. He certainly hardly ever shows up at Wayne Enterprises and takes next to no interest in the company.

Meanwhile people in places like Crime Alley and the Narrows are living hand to mouth. For all of Batman’s efforts over the years their lives never seem to improve.

People need Bruce Wayne.

What would happen if Bruce Wayne unmasked which would then enable him to put all of his considerable resources behind changing Gotham? What would Gotham look like?
