Introduction

The Ingressive Campus Ambassador (ICA) program offers a unique opportunity for students in tertiary institutions in Africa to contribute to the growth and development of the African tech ecosystem.

ICA is a platform for growth and development of future CTOs, founders, and CEOs, to learn from industry subject matter experts, share knowledge, network, and build the community and gain from the many great opportunities attached to the program.

Ingressive Campus Ambassadors are passionate about building an active community of tech enthusiasts — including designers and developers — and are committed to creating a positive experience for members of their community.

The Event Details

I always want to be among those that teach technology and make people understand what it is.

Ingressive gives me this unique opportunity to make my dream come true. It’s been an amazing opportunity.

Having an interest in building tech community in my college, I have a network of friends who share the same vision as mine, who also worked tirelessly in making our first meetup successful. they include Usman Shehu Gezawa, Babangida Sani, Buhari Alhassan Ahmad, Ibrahim Abdullahi Aliyu and Khadija Abdullahi Nashe.

We are very keen and impressing, as we have always watched the successes of other tech community events. We started planning as soon as the event was approved by Ingressive. We shared tasks very early which made planning easy and successful.

We tried and secured the best venue possible within the faculty for this event, and we will like to use this opportunity to thank our faculty staff for supporting our activities especially Malam Sagir Tanimu who is always there for us.

We also appreciate the effort of Developer Students club Bayero University Kano Lead Timothy Olaleke for providing additional swags and funds to support the event.

We designed an awesome flier, printed it, and used it to promote the event on social media.

The event was well executed as planned, although there was a glitch with the sound system. It all worked out pretty well.

We started at the stated time and we had an overwhelming attendance. From the start of the event, a lot of swags was distributed to the attendees as they arrive which included git cheat sheet, Markdown leaflet, and GitHub stickers.

We had 5 speakers and two hand-on sessions at the event.

INTRODUCTION TO WEB TECHNOLOGIES:

Usman is one of our core planning team, a two-time best student award winner, a Web Developer, and a Deep Tech enthusiastic.

It was a very exciting presentation delivered with passion and a deeper understanding of the topic.

After his presentation, we then had a brief hands-on session coding in HTML, CSS and JavaScript Instructed by Buhari Alhassan Ahmad, most of the participants used that opportunity in learning how to get started with Web Programming.

Many popular websites and blogs are created using WordPress those including; TechCrunch, Bloomberg, StarWars, BBC America, Disney among others.

After his presentation, we then had a Kahoot! session where the participants were asked to join a quiz on www.kahoot.it to refreshen them up. A special gift was awarded to the first, second and the third position. Khadija Abdullahi Nashe conducted the Kahoot game in form of a quiz. I took the last session of the event discussing “Version Control With Git & GitHub”. Although this was quite new to the audience as only about 10% of the participants had a GitHub account or had used git. But we discussed the basic introduction with them.

We had the last Kahoot session and the winners went home with awesome GitHub stickers. The event ended in grand style with a photo session outside the venue.

Going through organizing an event is indeed stressful and this event is not an exception. But this has given me great exposure to the organizing processes and I have to say it was an overwhelming experience for me, the core team members and the participants!
