Stamford Urby offers modern, communal living steps from the metro

Communal living in the city means saving money and resources by enjoying shared spaces alongside the convenience of being a short walk from Metro North. At least that’s what it means at the stylish new Stamford Urby.

Located on the corner of Greyrock Place and Tresser Boulevard in Stamford, Connecticut, this Urby offers 648 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments in the heart of downtown. But these apartments aren’t housed in a tall concrete building with small windows and bland interiors. Stamford Urby is a vibrant campus, focused on premium outdoor exposure and shared indoor living spaces.

Eleven buildings of varying heights are organized into a square with a courtyard in the middle. The richly landscaped property features winding paths lined with bamboo along with expansive gardens meant to create an urban oasis. A Brussels-based landscape architecture firm, Bureau Bas Smets, designed the space with co-living in mind as a place to gather with others or spend time in self-reflection. Common areas include an elevated saltwater pool and a patio with numerous grills and fire pits.

Inside, designers from the Amsterdam-based architecture and interiors firm Concrete created flowing apartment units with ceiling-high windows that let in natural light and offer a view of the bamboo gardens below. Each space makes thoughtful use of the square footage with built-in bookshelves, windowsill shelving and drawers in the closets.

Meanwhile, Stamford Urby’s main entrance lobby hosts a cafe, which is open to the public with the intent of offering residents an opportunity to engage with the local community. Roost, the on-site restaurant and coffee shop, offers a light menu along with coffee and cocktails seven days a week.

Combining social gathering with food, Stamford Urby offers communal kitchens meant as an easily accessible space for events and group functions. With a focus on health and wellness for the entire family as well as the community, the complex also offers a new-age fitness facility so residents can hit the gym or keep up with yoga close to home. There’s even a “woof-garden” for the canine family members to enjoy.

communla living

Designing an immersive communal living experience in a downtown area means building a sense of community and health but also catering to modern lifestyles. With this in mind, Stamford Urby offers smartphone entry to the buildings, Amazon Hub package lockers for deliveries, Wi-Fi throughout the campus, water refill stations and a video intercom for visiting guests. Other conveniences include electric car charging stations and secure bicycle parking.
